Demaret Grille History

Jimmy Demaret, Head Golf Professional at BraeBurn Country Club from 1936 to 1941, won the Master's Tournament three times (1940, 1947 1950), and secured several other professional victories during a competitive era that included players such as Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, and enjoyed the friendship of Hollywood celebrities such as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.
Demaret's popularity is reflected in the photographs which adorn the walls of the Demaret Grille and now bearing his name. Not bad for a kid who started as a nine-year old caddy at Camp Logan, today the site of Memorial Park. During his professional years, Jimmy was quite a flamboyant dresser, described by world-renowned sportswriter Grantland Rice as “a human rainbow in action." He was also a highly skilled golf professional, as evidenced by numerous wins and status as one of the Founding Fathers of Houston golf.
Demaret's tenure as BraeBurn's golf professional was not his first experience here, as he assisted course designer John Bredemus, who also designed Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, with the course construction. The 2005 opening of the Demaret Grille was attended by local golf luminaries such as Doug Sanders, Don Cherry and BBCC Pro Emeritus Jack Sellman.

The Jimmy Demaret Grill is available for casual dining from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm Wednesday through Sunday. Lunch is available on Tuesday. The Grille also features a full service bar, and it's accessible from the lobby or directly off of the practice green. Room capacity is 100 for a seated dinner and 150 for a reception. Closed Mondays.
