WGA Tournaments
 
The WGA has several tournaments during the year.   Some are more competitive while others are a fun format.   The following is a brief recap of each:
 
MERLE FRANKLIN WGA CHAMPIONSHIP
(OUR MOST IMPORTANT EVENT!)
  • Held in October
  • Open to all WGA members
  • 3-day 54-hole Gross* stroke play competition
  • Pairings done in flights by handicap
  • Record gross and net score each day
  • Scores entered in computer as a T-score* (Tournament Score*)
 
PRESIDENT’S CUP
  • Flighted Match Play event (“per hole” event)
  • A three day event with consolation flights for those losing their first match
  • Lowest score wins the hole and has 1 point
  • May give putts in match play
  • Opponent may concede a hole or the round
  • Flights consist of 8 players by handicap
  • Record your match play score according to USGA Handicap Guidelines.

  • Pro shop will enter scores as T-score* (Tournament Score*)
 
SWATFEST
  • Most fun WGA tournament of the year
  • A one day tournament in the spring, usually first weekend in May
  • Dinner on Friday evening to do the blind draw for teams
  • Each team consists of – an A & B woman, and an A & B man
  • A & B determined by handicap
  • Two best ball net tournament
  • Dinner and awards Saturday following play
 
PICK YOUR PARTNER
  • One day event usually in the spring
  • Usually one best ball gross and net for 9 holes, alternate shot or shamble for 9 holes
  • Two-member team competition for WGA members
  • Flighted/paired by handicap
 
 
 
 
THE CLASSIE LASSIE GUEST DAY
  • One day event
  • WGA member may invite up to three guests
  • Teams consist of four people
  • Format varies depending on Guest Day Chair
 
LADS & LASSIES
  • One day fall tournament
  • Held on a weekend
  • One member of team must be a WGA member and one male member
  • Previously called Mr. &  Mrs., now open to everyone
  • Format varies depending on the Chairman
 
TURKEY TOURNAMENT
  • A one day fall tournament
  • Team event with two WGA members
  • Format varies with Chairman
